Dynasty McGee Blog 6 Reflection

Comm 465 was one of the hardest class I have ever had to take. The class taught me a lot of information in what seemed like very little time. This class threw a lot of challenges at me and I did struggle in the beginning and in the middle honestly. Starting out my first video I didn’t really know what to accept. I had been used to doing radio interviews and I didn’t realize that so much more work went into video reporting. My first video didn’t go as well as I had planned, but it was good enough to get my feet wet. I realized that I needed to be more groomed while I was on camera while Dr. Z pointed out the fact that I had a nice voice for television. I took the grading with a grain of salt, determined to do better on the next project.

My second project my partner did the standup while I worked the camera. It was honestly fun for me to get to work the camera. I noticed my weakness in getting clear shots and I worked on it. This was good for me because I really needed the hands on experience working with a camera. At the same time I filmed my bank robbery package. By this time I realized that I basically needed to devote my whole day to my reports. This was the first video that I fully edited on my own and it was difficult. I know that it was good for me to learn, and when it was all said and done I was proud of myself, but the process was hard.

My third project I was more confident in my camera angles and with interviewing people. it was nerve working doing a hard-hitting news event but I was up for the challenge. Again editing the video took about 5 hours.

My fourth project may have been my favorite. I feel like by this time I’m as ready as I’ll every be. I was able to interview my coach and I got a really good story out of it. The editing process of the video was the only thing that I didn’t like.

I have been working on the final project for the last couple of days and it’s definitely been rough. I’ve almost broke down in tears about three times. I didn’t know so many things were going to be added together to make one project. I’ve been having trouble with my USB cards as well as uploading videos to the server in he right format. I’ll be happy when I’m actually done with the project.

I enjoyed Dr. Z as a person. He has taught me a lot about TV reporting as well as myself as a person. He was fair and extremely nice, and if I can view the world only a portion of how he does, then I’d be perfectly okay with that.
